Pelosi fired herself
Her own incompetence and liberal zeal did her in
Pelosi got fired yesterday. The American people completely rejected House Democrats, with Republicans 60-odd seats. Not that the Republicans are popular, it's just that they hate Democrats that much.
And much of the cause for the loss is really due to Nancy Pelosi herself. in her single-minded quest to pass health care, she not only alienated all Republicans, angered the Americans people, but also will doom Democrats with a flawed health care bill for years to come.
Pelosi is talking here in June 2009 about the requirements the House was focusing on for health care. The public option must be in the House bill (government-run health care/socialized medicine). It had major penalties to employers who didn't cover employees, and fines for people that didn't purchase coverage. A perfect liberal plan.
And what did Pelosi Read the link:
She didn't plan to include any Republican proposals, and she said it would pass the next week. With a public option. Oh Nancy, how wrong you were.
So what happened? People were upset about it. In numerous town halls, people voiced their opposition to it. What did she do?
Why, she pressed forward. In Oct 2009 she unveiled the bill in the House, but not before calling people that didn't support the bill "un-American". Yes, the regular people that voiced opposition to health care in a town meeting were to her, un-American.
Still wildly unpopular, what did Pelosi do with health care? Why, she pressed forward again of course.
The House passed the House version Nov 8, 2009.
Then came the Senate. In Dec 24, 2009, after months of wrangling and payoffs to Ben Nelson and others, the Senate version passes the Senate. But it has no public option and must be reconciled with the House version.
Then Scott Brown came along. He was elected Jan 19, 2010, right as the Senate was about to reconcile. This gave the Democrats only 59 votes, and so abandoned the effort. This stopped health care for a while.
So what did Pelosi decide to do? Press forward with health care? After using reconcilation, Democrats pass the health care bill, finally, in March 2010.
And during that time, Americans were suffering with high unemployment, a lingering recession, and concerns about foreclosure. What did Pelosi focus on? Health care.
By focusing so strongly on health care for over one YEAR during these turbulent times, it painted the picture to Americans that Democrats were out of touch and unconcerned with Americans' lives; only their liberal agenda at all costs.
And the bill instantly met with disapproval from business. AT&T alone made a $1 BILLION write-down as a result of the health care bill. Pelosi increased the costs to employers when we desperately needed employers to...employ people and not spend their $ on Pelosi's ambitions.
By the time the dust settled in March 2010, there were only a few months left before the election we just had. With the summer recess, primaries, and the like, this left little time for any other legislation or focus.
Americans, unhappy with a House run by liberal Pelosi, gave Republicans 60-odd seats on Tuesday, a huge victory. But the seeds of this victory should not be given to a Republican; Republicans can thank Pelosi for her narrow-mindedness, her obsession, her leftist policies, her arrogance, and her complete lack of concern for ordinary Americans.
Without those traits, Republicans would have never gained so many seats.
