Let's break it down what the options are for the GOP. Should they support the tax cut compromise or not?
Tax cut compromise passes now, what happens? - Obama permanently damaged if bill passes on the left
Extend tax cuts on the rich: unforgivable offense by liberals (as you can read here) Weakens Democratic party, causes infighting the next 2 years same link With or without a primary challenge to Obama, GOP President almost assured - Pelosi/Reid permanently damaged as well
If stalwart liberals like Pelosi passes this tax cut extension on the rich, what exactly do liberal stand for in regards to taxes for the rich? - Guaranteed all Americans will get a tax cut, helping the economy and removing "sour grapes" from Americans that might lash out at Republicans that refused a deal
There is no guarantee bill will pass after the "deadline" has passed
Tax cut compromise doesn't pass now, what happens? - Tax cuts passes later with GOP-controlled House
Obama still very damaged, trust is shattered in Obama from liberals. Less damage then if the bill were to pass now, because Democrats will blame GOP-controlled House GOP will end up looking like they are "saving" regular Americans (Bush tax cuts affect EVERYONE) by lowering their taxes GOP will set the tone for legislation right out of the gate - Tax cut doesn't go through
Democrats, since they allowed the tax increase will look like "tax-and-spend liberals". Massive spending, massive tax increases. Socialism socialism socialism socialism socialism Taxes go from 10% bracket to 15%, that's a 50% increase! That will not be popular in this economy. And who is to blame? Democrats.
