For a party that prides itself on transparency and were going to post bills 72 hours before voting on them, the Republicans in the Senate have been voicing outrage on the multiple DREAM Act bills being brought before the Senate in an effort to grant backdoor amnesty to illegal aliens. This bureaucratic shell game perpetuated by the highly unpopular Harry Reid of Nevada, is the worst example of political posturing and pandering to minorities in recent memory.
While supporters of the DREAM Act are playing the "we're doing it for the children" card for the umpteenth time, they, along with the members of the mainstream media, fail to disclose the age parameters. This bill, supposedly rewarding students of illegal aliens, covers anyone 35 years and younger. Thirty-five years. The average age for a college graduate is 23-24 years. Is the bill inferring that children of illegal aliens aren't that bright and it takes them longer to get through college? Most people are married with families well underway by then.
Once this 35 and under crowd receives citizenship, they can take their entire extended family along for the ride. The number of illegals that would be covered as a result would skyrocket exponentially, with our fragile economy and infrastructure having to take care of this new influx of people who have no desire to engage in orderly immigration.
According to Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, he will not dream of voting for the DREAM Act until the borders are secure. Secure borders -- a sovereign nation having secure borders -- why is it such a difficult notion for this congress and our president (or any of our past presidents) to grasp? Securing our borders seems like such a no-brainer, but for both parties, it is a red-hot political potato that neither really want to deal with, lest their party be shamed into being branded as being xenophobes and racists.
With armed incursions taking place across our borders by drug cartels, it would only make sense to secure our borders. The majority of Americans who are overwhelmingly opposed to the idea of illegal alien amnesty in any form. The majority of Americans didn't want Obamacare yet the Senate thought, in all of its infinite wisdom that they knew better, passed it. Must the shellacking of the Democrat party continue into 2012?
Today, and for the foreseeable future, we are a nation woefully unemployed, with a growing debt that will eventually cause us to be financially annexed to China, we cannot take care of our own, let alone take the brunt of up to 30 million more people.
It is time to drive a stake through the heart of this racially motivated bill once and for all, and for those who are here illegally to accept the consequences of their actions. It is a bitter pill to swallow, but those who have broken the law and want to ride into the country on a family member's coattails need to stop trying to find back door approaches to cutting in line, in front of those who respect, revere, and uphold our laws.
